This program is a combination exercise and prayer format for our parish family. It provides twelve weeks of exercising with the added opportunity to include bible readings, prayer intentions and information about saints, holy people, geography and landmarks along the journey. These prayer intentions mention the needs of your families, neighborhood, parish, communities, country, and our world. Together we can be a powerhouse of prayer, as we walk the miles locally with family and friends, and combine our efforts to complete the 38,000 mile round trip journey on the Pan American Highway from Prudoe Bay, Alaska to the tip of Ushuaia, Argentina. This is a unique opportunity to exercise both spiritual and physical muscles in union with our parish family.
How to begin
- Sign up for the Walk after masses the weekend of May 24–25 and May 31–June 1. Collect your materials and instructions, then begin walking on June 9th. (Note: other aerobic exercises such as; swimming, tennis, basketball, biking, gardening etc. will be given a mile credit for every 20 minutes). Young children can also participate by doing a good deed or doing chores or just going outside and running around!
- Turn your first miles in the weekend of June 14-15.
- Then pick up the materials (geographical information, weekly mileage form and prayer intention) in the Narthex weekly.
- Each Saturday or Sunday for 12 weeks, turn in your miles in a designated basket in the Narthex.
- Watch the miles accumulate as each person contributes to our journey. These miles will be plotted weekly on the map located on a kiosk in the Narthex.
- If you go on vacation, you can turn your mileage records in when you return.
- If you have any questions ask a member of the Health Ministry team. You can call or text Pat Taylor at 208-272-0730, or Terry Gallaher at 208-850-6961.
Hopefully, once this twelve week period is finished, we will have developed habits of praying as we go about our daily activities. In addition, the opportunity to continue exercising frequently can contribute to our physical health. Have fun following in the footsteps of Christ, as you “Walk to the Ends of the Earth.”
