An altar server is a lay assistant to a member of the clergy during a Christian liturgy. An altar server attends to supporting tasks at the altar such as fetching and carrying, ringing the altar bell, helping bring up the gifts, and bringing up the liturgical books, among other things. 

Requirements

Open to both male and female parishioners at least 2nd grade and have received First Communion. Adults as well as youth are encouraged to participate. Must attend an initial training session, as well as an annual "refresher" class. Servers are scheduled to assist at the Mass they normally attend.
